The Success of Innovation

During the last 18 years, we have secured billions of products using our Cryptoglyph technology. In the beginning, the solution worked only on paper. Over the years, we found solutions to enable its application to many other substrates: cartons, plastic, aluminum, tin, etc. In every case, those new solutions retained the core benefit of the Cryptoglyph technology: totally invisible, easy to detect with a smartphone and no added production cost. We have recently adapted the technology to two new types of foils: ultrathin aluminum and PET film. Those foils are printed using the supplier’s standard process (rotogravure) and therefore adopting our solution does not incur any additional cost. This solution further extends our offerings and enables an even larger group of users to benefit from the Cryptoglyph solution.

BMS Spring Release

We are only a few weeks away from releasing the Version 2.0 of the Brand Monitoring System ( BMS), our online platform which allows brands to control and monitor brand protection activities. AlpVision BMS was first released in 2017 with the goal to provide brand owners with a simple, though effective, platform to monitor authentication activities and to control authentication devices at the same time. With installations all over the world, BMS is helping companies every day. The spring release 2019 features several new functionalities, most of which were asked for by customers and considered to be pertinent by our project team. Artificial Intelligence

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is everywhere, including at AlpVision. In the last few years, we have developed several machine learning approaches for our authentication software. For specific problems, AI substantially increases the performance of our apps. This approach is particularly effective whenever algorithmic methods are too complex to be expressed by a person. Moreover, it provides solutions that generalize our AlpVision Fingerprint approach to authenticate multipart objects like consumer appliances or natural materials like wood or leather.

Full Android Compatibility

Historically, the AlpVision authentication applications for Cryptoglyph and Fingerprint were released for the iPhone. We developed our first Android version back in 2014. Since then, we have seen a growing interest for the Android version. This is particularly the case in China which has several large domestic manufacturers like Huawei and Xiaomi. The good news is that, despite the variability between the optics of the various Android devices, all tested models were able to run our app successfully.

AlpVision Joins IACC

We are pleased to announce that starting in January 2019 AlpVision is an active member of the International AntiCounterfeiting Coalition (IACC), a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit organization devoted solely to combating product counterfeiting and piracy. Formed in 1979, the IACC is the longest-standing organization of its kind. The IACC is active both in the United States and internationally and among many activities organizes events, educates the public, and advocates policies. With a member base of over 250, the IACC takes on a leading position and therefore has a real impact when it comes to influencing and guiding the field. We at AlpVision are extremely excited to take an active part within the IACC and to help brand owners fight the everincreasing counterfeiting problem. New Offices in Shanghai

Since the opening of our office in Shanghai, AlpVision has recorded excellent sales results in China. By the end of December, we will relocate to the Swiss Center in Hongquio which features ultra-modern offices in the heart of Shanghai. This location provides also excellent connections to the train station and airports. Furthermore, many important brand owners seeking for anti-counterfeit solutions are located nearby. We believe that this new site will help us to further speed up our deployment in China.

Cryptoglyph’s story started in 2001 when Dr. Fred Jordan and Dr. Martin Kutter took the theoretical fundamentals of their digital watermarking solution and invented a new concept for the protection of printed products. From the very beginning on the Cryptoglyph created a lot of interest in different fields and for different applications. It is interesting to note that initially the Cryptoglyph was only used on documents but after some years moved into brand protection. CBC Anti-Counterfeit Committee

A new user group bringing together over 10,000 members of the Chinese cosmetic industry has been created. This group named “CBC Anti-Counterfeit Committee”will run under the presidency of Lucien Zhao from AlpVision China. This group is a part of the All-China Federation of Industry & Commerce which regulates and harmonizes standards across China. The purpose of this initiative is to gather the experiences of a variety of cosmetic stakeholders and come up with solutions in order to solve the difficulties encountered with current authentication features. During the last meeting on August 11th, the committee designed a draft prototype security label and planned a first production in the coming weeks. The final version is planned to be ready this year. Two new patents have been granted to AlpVision!

The first one is titled “Method intended for preventing forgery or alteration of a printed or engraved surface”. This patent, granted on July 30th, covers European countries and reinforces the protection coverage of our Cryptoglyph technology, which enables printing of invisible authentication markings using standard inks and varnishes. The second one, “Means for using microstructure of materials surface as a unique identifier”, protects our Fingerprint technology in Europe. Fingerprint automatically authenticates a product without modifying its manufacturing process in any way. These two successful granting enforce our position as an industry leader in the product authentication field.

Iphone authentication on solid color

We have just completed the successful deployment of a new security feature inspired by both the Cryptoglyph and the Secured QR-Code technology. This feature, «Easy Detect”, is specifically dedicated for authentication by the consumer, but it is totally invisible for the naked eye. Moreover, it can be detected instantly by iPhone and Android phones and does not require any network connection. Finally, and probably the most important aspect, it can be printed using traditional offset lithography with absolutely no additional cost. It has been successfully deployed into high volume production, thus demonstrating the ease of printing, deployment, and authentication.

AlpVision is ISO 9001:2015 Certified

AlpVision is proud to announce the granting of a new patent. This US patent 10,019,627 B2 was granted on July 18, 2018 and describes a new digital authentication technology based on the analysis of two images. These images are automatically captured when the operator moves his smartphone over the authentication feature. Then, the new algorithm is able process these two images to verify the 3D topographic characteristics of the feature and to instantly display an authentication message. The main benefit of this approach is to have a feature that is visible for the naked eye but remains highly challenging to counterfeit. It is therefore particularly suitable for authentication by consumers. A good practical example of such a feature is AlpVision’s Smart Embossing, which combines all the benefits of this new technology with an extremely low production cost.

New US patent 10,019,627 B2

It is our great pleasure to announce that as of July 3rd, 2018, AlpVision SA is ISO 9001:2015 certified. The certification was performed by SGS (Société Générale de Surveillance SA), known as the global leader in certification. ISO 9001 is the international standard that specifies requirements for a quality management system (QMS). In critical environments, such as pharmaceuticals, business performance characteristics including quality of service, reliability, and security become more and more important and supplier 9001 certification is an effective mean to assure compliance with these high standards. AlpVision is now one of the few authentication solution providers with ISO 9001 certification and the capability to deliver FDA compliant software which is validated according to GAMP 5. ISO 9001 certification is audited on a yearly basis by the certification authority to guarantee the continued improvement of the quality management system.

Authentication Solutions for Bottles

In the past few years, AlpVision has developed an entire family of solutions to authenticate bottles. In particular for automotive lubricants and the distilled spirits industry, we adapted the Cryptoglyph technology so that it would work successfully with labels, plastic shrink sleeves, aluminum seal liners, tin capsules, polymer capsules and metal caps. AlpVision’s Fingerprint technology was also refined to work on any plastic cap, including those of circular shape without any reference markings. This was made possible using newly created algorithms which are able to automatically recover the rotation angle of the cap. All those developments have been not only technical achievements but also commercial successes leading to deployed products. These results demonstrate the versatility of the Cryptoglyph which can be printed using a large variety of technologies and on very different materials.

Fingerprint Technology Improvement

One of our flagship authentication solutions is the AlpVision Fingerprint. It enables consumers to instantly authenticate a product just using the micro-imperfections made during its manufacturing. Only a smartphone is needed, without any additional devices like lights or lenses. One of the specific benefits of this approach is that it is not the packaging but really the product itself which is authenticated. We are proud to announce that we recently refined our detection algorithms to the point that we can now authenticate products which are placed behind a transparent media. This enables to authenticate products which are placed in packages featuring a transparent plastic window. Several of our customers are benefitting from this improvement. Moreover, the technology is not limited to transparent packaging as we have also deployed it on luxury watches with clear case backs.

AlpVision Compatible with WCO IPM Version 2.0

Some time ago the world customs organization released API Version 2.0 of IPM, their web and mobile platform. This platform allows rights holders to share relevant product information and facilitates online verification of product authenticity. AlpVision was the very first solution provider to integrate into IPM giving parties such as customs the possibility to verify product authenticity using AlpVision’s technologies. The release of the new API Version 2.0 extends the first version of IPM with new functionalities. All our solutions are now fully compatible with this new release and a demonstration system is available upon request. How does it work? Users simply use the IPM application to scan the product QR/barcode with their smartphone and are then guided through the authentication process. Our solutions are fully integrated into the IPM application, making the authentication process using AlpVision solutions totally seamless to the user. We are happy to announce that we have successfully completed the qualification of a new type of packaging that can now be protected with our technologies. Indeed, we adapted our solution to the so-called “shrink-sleeve”, which are flexible plastic films used to wrap both a bottle and its cap. These wrappings act therefore both as a tamper-proof device and as an authentication device. The authentication may be performed by end user consumers, who will, therefore, be able to simultaneously verify that the bottle has not been re-filled and that it is genuine. The first brand owners deploying these solutions are in the distilled spirit and automotive industries. However, this solution is also attractive for many other markets already using shrink-sleeves, like the cosmetic, beverage, and food industries.

New! Fake & Genuine Detection

All the AlpVision authentication applications automatically detect authentic products by analyzing in real-time the video stream coming from the camera of the smartphone, giving the user instant authentication of the product. This is particularly impressive since the detected features are invisible to the naked eye. Patent Granted for Unique AlpVision Technology

AlpVision had a new patent granted in the US for its Fingerprint technology. Entitled “Mean for using microstructure of materials surface as a unique identifier”, this patent covers the latest Fingerprint technology advances while building upon the unique imaging and signal processing know-how developed by Alpvision in the past 15 years. This patent addresses the detection of counterfeit and genuine products using microscopic details made in manufacturing which render the article physically unique. In practice, it means that the deployment of this solution does not require any modification to the product and adds no manufacturing cost. A simple imaging device such as a smartphone can be used for detection with lighting and resolution predetermined by the AlpVision application, without requiring any complex setup by the end user. Very few reliable solutions are available in this field and AlpVision has already acquired a robust track record with many rolled-out implementations worldwide.

Novel QR Code for Authentication

At the Brand Protection Congress on Nov. 22, 2017, AlpVision announced the release of a QR Code that can be used for authentication. This solution instantly detects when a QR Code has been copied. It is based on tiny modifications of the QR Code digital file that are totally invisible to the naked eye, but that our smartphone app can immediately detect. The QR Code remains readable by any standard QR Code reader, including those already available on popular apps like SnapChat, WeChat or the Camera tool. Any consumer can scan the QR Code to get the authentication application and verify that a product is authentic. This new solution complements nicely the other unique technologies which have made AlpVision successful: the Cryptoglyph and the AlpVision Fingerprint.

Anti-Counterfeiting Reports

On 15th of November, QyResearchReport published a detailed report addressing anti-counterfeit packaging solutions for electronics. It examined top players supplying anti-counterfeit solutions, including AlpVision’s Cryptoglyph. In particular, the report describes the excellent pairing between our Cryptoglyph solution, protecting printed electronic carton packaging and our Fingerprint solution protecting plastic electronic packaging. iPhone 8 Full Compatibility

Historically, AlpVision has always supported the Apple iPhone series since the iPhone 4. Therefore, all our applications are carefully tested on each hardware model version as well as each main iOS release. Thanks to our US-based operations, we were able to receive the iPhone 8 a few days after its release. We thoroughly benchmarked the iPhone 8 for our range of technologies and are happy to report that we observe a full compatibility with our detection applications. Moreover, the processor A11 of the iPhone 8 is estimated to have more than 50% of additional computing power compared to the iPhone 7. This will further expand the power of our authentication applications and will benefit immediately to all our customers.

In the News

Our company has been active with authentication technologies for over 15 years, and billions of products are protected with our solutions each year, produced by over a hundred suppliers worldwide. As a result, there are numerous articles on the internet mentioning our company. Although many of those references are made by robots or automatic listings from conferences we attended, a number of those articles are sometimes written totally independently from us. Discover AlpVision's Brand Monitoring System

Implementing an authentication solution is a necessary but insufficient step to effectively protect brands against counterfeiting. Once a solution has been put in place, it is extremely important to use it, collect its results and monitor its effectiveness. During the past 15 years, we have observed that the monitoring of authentication solutions is not being used effectively and effort is concentrated on solution deployment. In order to help our customers, we have released the AlpVision Brand Monitoring System (BMS). This combination of mobile authentication and the centralized collection and analysis of data, allows for active monitoring of the effectiveness of the implemented brand protection solution. AlpVision's Brand Monitoring System uses localization, user information, product data, and authentication results to analyze global usage and prepare comprehensive monitoring reports. European Union Tobacco Packaging Directive

The 2nd Stakeholder Meeting on the Implementation of the European Union Tobacco Packaging Directive was held on the 15th of May 2017. The purpose of this directive is to define solutions on tobacco products in order to be able to perform their traceability and authentication. AlpVision has contributed actively to this legislation process. Indeed, we have long term experience in this field since our Cryptoglyph technology has been used at a very large scale for the authentication of tobacco products for many years. The core of the discussion was the report by Everis which analyzed the main technical aspects. We made an oral intervention to highlight several inconsistencies. We proposed recognition that smartphones can be used as an authentication device. Our intent is to keep on guiding the EU so that they may come up with a directive that will be both effective and technically realistic.

Artwork Fingerprint, a new authentication technology

AlpVision has been securing billions of products for many years using invisible features. Those features are either created on the packaging (Cryptoglyph) or are already existing on the product (Fingerprint). There is a third class of feature, the most obvious one, which consists of all the visual differences between the genuine and the counterfeit products. Examples are the differences found in the artwork of the packaging, in the hot-stamping areas, in the die-cut design, the shape of the tablets or the color of the product, etc. Those differences can be both microscopic details (10 to 100 µm) or macroscopic mistakes (several millimeters wide or even color or texture differences) made by the counterfeiter. Artwork Fingerprint can automatically detect these differences using a smartphone. We believe that this technology will be particularly beneficial to online retailers and marketplaces to provide a better shopping experience for their customers.

MarketsandMarkets just published their global forecast for the worldwide anti-counterfeit market. This report predicts that the main market territories in 2021 are expected to be dominated by Asia, followed by Europe and Norh America. AlpVision is featured in the report and listed as one the major players in the field of anti-counterfeiting solutions. Yahoo Finance also recently listed AlpVision as one of the top 5 vendors in the global anti-counterfeiting market. This recognition stemmed from a study released by Technavio, which analyzed 43 vendors active in the field. Finally, the report for Anti-counterfeit Packaging by Market Research Future released in March 2017 listed AlpVision as a top key player for anti-counterfeiting packaging.

New US Fingerprint Patent Granted


AlpVision Fingerprint is being used worldwide to protect molded products against counterfeiting. For example, this technology protects such diverse items as flip-off caps of vials, precious metals, and bottle closures. Using intrinsic features of the product, AlpVision Fingerprint is one of the most cost effective and secure solutions available on the market today. On July 12, 2016, a core patent protecting the AlpVision Fingerprint was granted by the United States Patent Office. The patent, number US 9,390,345 B2, is entitled “Means for using microstructure of materials surface as a unique identifier” and covers the core idea of using intrinsic surface features as an authentication means. We are very excited about this patent as it strengthens our authentication position with a unique, novel, and very disruptive approach.

Blister Pack Authentication with mobile phones


Authenticating secondary packaging, such as folding boxes, is very often a first choice for a brand as one is not required to open the box to authenticate the product. However, in addition to the multi-layer paradigm, pharmaceutical companies have realized that security can be significantly increased if the security solutions get closer to the product itself, protecting not only secondary but also primary packaging. Our latest technical achievement supports this approach. We are very happy to announce that it is now possible to authenticate aluminum blister packs protected with AlpVision Cryptoglyph using smart phones, such as iPhones and Galaxy phones. This is a major achievement since processing images of blister packs is extremely challenging due to the aluminum reflectivity and texture. The Success of the Smart Embossing


The launch of our Smart Embossing technology last month has generated an impressive amount of interest among our customers and prospects. Initiatives such as the EU’s Falsified Medicines Directive and Tobacco Products Directive highlight the need for authentication and track and trace solutions. Based on this requirement we created the first upgrade to Smart Embossing and today we are proud to announce QR Code enabled Smart Embossing. A standard QR Code is directly over-printed on a Smart Embossing device providing track and trace functionality while maintaining the underlying authentication characteristics. This upgrade is now the first smartphone enabled authentication feature which is fully suitable for track and trace applications and plays an important role in both the Falsified Medicines and Tobacco Products directives mentioned above.

Cryptoglyph on Seal Liner


The Cryptoglyph technology is an invisible marking that has been used for many years to authenticate boxes and labels. It is also widely deployed on aluminium pharmaceutical blister packs. We recently opened a radically new application field by integrating Cryptoglyph into the aluminium seal liners used on lubricant bottles. The detection of the Cryptoglyph is performed instantly using an iPhone application. Moreover, the app automatically detects partially opened seal liners. This tamper-proofing capability and enables detection of authentic bottles which have been refilled. This new development complements our offerings for simple and effective brand authentication solutions and demonstrates the wide fields of application of the Cryptoglyph technology.

AlpVision in China – The experience of a new market


One year ago, in October 2015, AlpVision set up its new offices in Shanghai with the intent to expand the brand protection business. Compared to our marketing experience in Western countries, we have been happily surprised by the immediate brand owner interest in new authentication solutions. Indeed, few solutions are currently available in China. Only holograms and QR-codes have been deployed at a large scale and they are not secure: the former is generally copied within a few months after roll-out while the latter does not provide any kind of security against copying. Other alternatives are simply too expensive for the Chinese market. Fortunately, our 3 technologies Cryptoglyph, Fingerprint and Smart Embossing cost even less than holograms while providing a much higher level of security. The traction in the market has therefore been impressive in all sectors: spirits, nutrition, lubricants, cosmetics, tobacco, etc. This commercial success was recognized by the president of the Swiss Confederation, Johann Schneider-Ammann, who visited our offices in Shanghai in March 2016. Two months later AlpVision was even invited to present at the World Economic Forum in Tianjin. At this point, we are therefore confident that our solutions will play an active role in supplying Chinese brand owners with effective means to protecttheir products and customers against counterfeiting.

AlpVision Announces Smart Embossing - New Overt Security Technology


Smart Embossing is a totally new security technology dedicated to product authentication by consumers. This new solution builds on the key features of our current offerings: user friendliness, security, simple deployment and affordability. It utilizes unique, patented, image processing technology to reproduce and authenticate a 3D security pattern on a metalized surface. It is both an overt feature that can be recognized at a glance by a consumer with no training or special equipment and a secure feature that can be authenticated instantly using a dedicated smartphone application requiring no network connection. Since the authentication relies on the digital re-creation of the 3D topography of the imprinted pattern, it is impossible to duplicate the feature using any two-dimensional copy technology. This 3D topography is reproduced in the smartphone application and compared to that of an authentic product. Smart Embossing can be applied to the protected product as a label stuck to the product or it can be integrated directly into the packaging of the protected item.

New patent granted in Hong Kong


AlpVision SA has obtained a new patent protecting the Fingerprint technology in Hong Kong. The patent, ID 09102325.3, is accessible online at the Hong Kong patent office using publication number 1122887. This patent is based on the earlier European filing titled “Means for using microstructure of materials surface as a unique identifier”. The European patent has a priority date of 2005, which makes it one of the very first patented authentication technologies based on the Fingerprint approach. This technology is used worldwide by AlpVision for authenticating plastic and metallic components with a simple smartphone and without altering the protected product in any manner. The new patent reinforces our IP position on the Asian market and will be useful for the activities of our new office in Shanghai.

AlpVision celebrates its 15th year anniversary


AlpVision is proudly celebrating its 15th anniversary in June 2016. When we founded AlpVision in 2001, the company was a very early-stage startup in a garage. We had theoretical background related to steganography based on the Ph.D. work of Dr. Kutter and Dr. Jordan but had few ideas for commercial or industrial applications. Nevertheless, less than 2.5 years later, the company became profitable and has ever been since. Moreover, we pride ourselves for never having lost even a single customer since we started our activity in the brand protection industry. This, combined with the extremely low turnover of our technical personnel, makes us confident about the long-term sustainability of the company.

President Schneider-Ammann Visits AlpVision China


President Johann Schneider-Ammann, along with a high-ranking delegation of 60 people, recently participated in the ribbon-cutting ceremony of the newly created “Machinery, Trade and Business Center”, a member of the Swiss Center Shanghai (SCS) family located in Shanghai’s Waigaoqiao Free Trade Zone. 18 Swiss companies have established their offices at SCS Machinery, Trading and Business Center. AlpVision joined them in October 2015 to provide solutions to China’s rampant counterfeiting issues. Lucien Zhao, a member of the AlpVision Team, hosted the President and showcased AlpVision’s product authentication technologies. AlpVision Expands Activities in Japan with ISID


AlpVision is proud to announce the signature of a distribution contract for its authentication technology with the Japanese company ISID. Specialized in IT and consulting services, ISID perfectly matches AlpVision’s needs in terms of commercial and technical competences. Moreover, with 6 offices in Japan and 2600 employees, ISID has a strong presence in Japan. Japanese pharmaceutical companies represent about 20% of the worldwide pharmaceutical turnover and offer therefore interesting development perspectives for AlpVision. AlpVision’s Fingerprint Technology Sustains Wear and Time


Fingerprint, developed by AlpVision, leverages the naturally occurring surface irregularities found in a mold and uses these unique characteristics to authenticate a variety of molded materials, including plastic and metal. The solution has been deployed successfully at industrial level since 2009. As with our other products, AlpVision Fingerprint can be instantly detected using a smartphone. The AlpVision Team recently ran a number of experiments on injection molded plastic caps used and reproduced millions of times for several years. Despite the aging of the mold, authentication using a smartphone was as successful at the time of the experiments as on deployment day. These tests prove once again that the Fingerprint technology and authentication process are today as years ago the easiest, more secure authentication solution for molded products in the world.

Package Wrapping Is No Barrier to Cryptoglyph Detection



Today, many products are wrapped in protective plastic, such as see-through shrink-wrap and protective polypropylene film, to safeguard and cushion them. Without taking the contents of the package out, authentication of wrapped products becomes a real challenge. However, products using AlpVision’s Cryptoglyph technology can be authenticated even through a protective film without having to open the package contents using a smartphone. Simply position the smartphone over the see-through wrapped item. Authentication should be completed in less than 3 seconds – a real advantage and timesaver compared to other competitive solutions!

On November 4, 2015, AlpVision was granted a new European patent EP2024899B1 protecting the core innovation of our Fingerprint technology. AlpVision Launches New Smartphone Server Solution

When AlpVision was first founded, our solutions were deployed on PC and product authentication was performed using document scanners. Today, our product authentication systems run on smartphones, using the device’s camera, flash and onboard processing power. Since our algorithms are capable of working entirely offline, most of our software applications are deployed without the need for a central server communication link. However, some of our recent customers have requested server interaction for product selection and reporting of results, for example. In response to this need, we have developed a client-server infrastructure, based on our Krypsos server platform. Krypsos is an ASP.NET based web application, which has been successfully used by Fortune 500 companies for over 10 years. Coupled with our smartphone product authentication app, this new service is designed to help brand owners manage, generate, control and report the performance of our authentication technologies from a central location.

European Commission Innovation Report

The Business Innovation Observatory of the European Commission released this year a study on “Traceability Across the Value Chain: Standards, processes and traceability”. The purpose of the report is to assess whether traceability standardisation efforts may impact small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Europe. The Observatory selected four companies across Europe for a more in-depth analysis. AlpVision is one of them, marking the significance of our current impact at the European level. AlpVision Opens New Office in China

When it comes to product counterfeiting, China is considered as one of the world’s hotspots. According to the WTO, 2% of all world trade accounts for counterfeit goods, and this number is steadily increasing. As the world's leader in digital invisible technologies for product authentication and counterfeit protection, it was only natural that AlpVision open an office in China. Since October 1, 2015, Lucien Zhao has been running our Chinese operations out of our office located in the Swiss Center in the Shanghai Pilot Free Trade Zone. The zone is being used as a testing ground for a number of economic and social reforms and is the first free-trade zone in mainland China. The Swiss Center was founded in 2000 and is today by far the largest cluster of Swiss enterprises in China. The AlpVision Team is very excited about this new office location and looks forward to better serving our customers in China and the surrounding areas.

AlpVision Fingerprint Ventures Into New Territory

AlpVision Fingerprint has experienced more revenue growth than any of our technologies over the past few years. The reason behind this trend lies in its simplicity. Instead of applying a marking, this authentication method relies on the imperfections that naturally occur in molded products. We have deployed this technology with great success on plastic parts (pharmaceutical flip-off tops) and on metallic ones. In the watch industry, so far, we have been limited to parts that are either molded or die-stamped. However, we are now able to propose a fingerprint that is unique for each watch and still detectable with an iPhone. The detection process performs a serial number lookup, followed by a one-to-one match with the micro-defects of the watch under inspection. As with our other technologies, a regular iPhone can be used to perform instant product authentication.

AlpVision Cryptoglyph Now Applicable to Metallic Closures

The vast majority of our customers print AlpVision’s Cryptoglyph technology on paper or carton. And so far, our solution has been remarkably successful protecting packaging and labeling. In recent months, we have made great strides in testing and successfully applying AlpVision Cryptoglyph to metallic closures. Since metallic closures are generally tamper-proof, combining AlpVision Cryptoglyph with a device for tamper-evidence is a very secure way to guarantee that both the packaging and content are genuine. As always, our solution is completely invisible to the naked eye, economical and easy to detect. The wine and spirits industry, for example, could benefit from this new development to fight counterfeits and lookalikes, and in turn boost customer confidence and increase public safety.

AlpVision Exhibits in Shanghai

From April 23-25, 2015, the International New Anti-Counterfeiting Technology Exhibition took place in Shanghai, China. The event was held together with the CSITF-China Shanghai International Technology Fair, a gathering of over 900 exhibitors and 38’000 visitors. AlpVision used this opportunity to showcase its Cryptoglyph and Fingerprint authentication technologies. Both solutions generated a lot of interest among visitors. Consumer-led product authentication is of very high importance in China, as the problem of counterfeit consumer goods is widespread in that country. Visitors were also very interested in the use of smartphones for product authentication, as China currently tops global smartphone shipments. Finally, participants were excited about the benefits of digital solutions for product authentication, as they operate in a highly costsensitive environment.

iPhone QC Tool Update

Although Cryptoglyph is invisible to the naked eye, AlpVision’s authentication feature can be instantly detected with a smartphone and a proprietary application. One version of this application is specifically designed for printers. This mobile app allows printers to detect the presence of a signal in real-time and in turn control the quality of millions of printed sheets at a time. With the new software update, printers will now be able to detect a lack of print finish, such as varnish, typically resulting in an excessively high signal (displayed in yellow on the image) and therefore compromising the security of the printed safety feature. Although these cases are extremely rare, this update will no doubt give the needed reassurances for top-level quality control.

AlpVision: Looking Back, Looking Ahead

2014 was an extremely interesting year for AlpVision, not only from a technological perspective, but also from a financial one. On the technology side, the past year clearly had a focus on moving from scanner-based authentication solutions to entirely smartphone-based ones. This move includes both the authentication process, as well as quality control management. Our applications were also upgraded to run on the latest iPhones and our entire suite of technologies were ported to Android-based smartphones. From a financial perspective, AlpVision maintained a sustainable growth rate, a remarkable performance compared to our competitors. Industry wide, 2015 got off to a rough start when the Swiss National Bank suddenly announced that it would lift the Euro exchange rate ceiling. While sudden and unpredictable, this decision did not have a critical impact on AlpVision’s business. Looking ahead, we will be launching a brand new product authentication tool in the next few months. So stay tuned, you will not be disappointed!

Cryptoglyph & Innovation

AlpVision is proud to announce the first roll out of a Cryptoglyph-based product authentication and printing quality control system using the iPhone. As a reminder, AlpVision Cryptoglyph is an invisible pattern applied to packaging using regular overprint varnish and is detectable using an iPhone. To deploy this innovative system, a regular iPhone is equipped with two different applications. While the first app performs a detection of the pattern and instantly verifies its authenticity, the second one checks the quality of the printed Cryptoglyph. This two-app system provides printers with a means to perform quality control and product authentication of printed sheets in real time during production. Relying entirely on smartphones enables brand owners and printers alike to simplify and speed-up all steps of the Cryptoglyph implementation and deployment. It also reflects our customers’ primary objective: “make it simple”.

AlpVision application, seamless compatibility with iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus

On September 9, 2014, Apple released the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. According to Apple’s press release, the two new devices are “ … the biggest advancements in iPhone history, featuring two new models with stunning 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch Retina HD displays, and packed with innovative technologies in an all-new dramatically thin and seamless design”. AlpVision has tested the two new models for application compatibility and is proud to announce that our mobile authentication solutions and quality control tools run seamlessly on both devices. In addition to compatibility, application performance has increased substantially with screen size, camera quality, detection speed and usability. The main reason for this improvement lies in the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus faster autofocus and enhanced color rendering. With the release of the new iOS 8 mobile operating system on September 17, 2014, the new devices offer additional camera control and handling features, which contribute furthermore to enhanced user experience.

Two market studies list AlpVision among leading anti-counterfeiting companies

At the beginning of 2014, visiongain published a new report on “Anti-counterfeit packaging technologies market forecast 2014-2024”. The report identifies trends and segments with high revenue potential, analyzes submarkets, and reviews solution and technology providers. AlpVision solutions now run on Android Smartphones

AlpVision provides two covert authentication solutions. Although invisible to the naked eye, both solutions can be detected instantly using an iPhone running on our dedicated application. In 2001, we started offering product authentication using document scanners and PC software. We then released the iPhone authentication application in 2012 and moved quickly to adapt it to other iOS devices, such as the iPhone 4S, 5, 5S and the iPod. This approach was so successful that we started porting the application to Android. However, in order to reach the real-time performance of the iPhone detector, we had to rewrite the detection algorithms from scratch. In addition, we had to perform specific optimizations related to camera and flash functions. These efforts paid off and we are happy to announce that AlpVision’s Cryptoglyph product authentication application now runs in real-time on Samsung S5 under Android 4.4.2. We are very excited about this new release and look forward to further extending the usage of our solutions worldwide.

Multiple printers successfully complete Cryptoglyph printing qualification program

AlpVision is glad to welcome three more folding box and label suppliers among its qualified printers. Protecting printed packaging components with AlpVision Cryptoglyph technology is very easy and does not change the printing process. The qualification program consists in a training during which the product protection workflow, from prepress to printing, is performed. At the end of the process AlpVision performs a quality check of the printed folding box and qualifies the printer. Printing of the Cryptoglyph is industrially proven since many years and we are glad to report that until today we never had the case where a supplier was not able to print the Cryptoglyph.

iPhone based quality control tool

AlpVision has released the first version of a new system for quality control for the Cryptoglyph printed in varnish. The new tool enables a real-time and user-friendly assessment of the printing quality of AlpVision’s invisible marking flagship. The marking is typically printed in flexography and integrated directly into the varnish layer. The system comprises an iPhone and a custom box which is open on one side. The iPhone (5 or 5s) is used to run a quality control iPhone app that analyses the video stream in real-time. The main purpose of the box is to keep the iPhone at a specific distance and orientation in respect to the carton sample, while protecting the analyzed area from extraneous light. This new tool will be ready for shipping in Q2 2014.

AlpVision Fingerprint compatible with iPhone macro lenses

The Fingerprint AlpVision technology enables to authenticate molded or die stamped parts using just an iPhone. This authentication solution covers for instance plastic parts obtained by injection molding like caps, circuit breakers, flip-off caps, as well as metallic parts like those obtained by die stamping on metallic parts for the automotive industry. Until recently, this technology required to acquire an image of about 20mmx20mm of the object to be authenticated. However, we were recently able to adapt the algorithms and image processing routines in order to work with some macro lenses that are readily available for the iPhone. This enables to authenticate areas almost 10 times smaller and opens our solution to an even wider field of applications including for instance luxury watches.

AlpVision Fingerprint Deployment Effortless Thanks to Charmille Surface Finish Chart

AlpVision’s Fingerprint technology authenticates molded or stamped parts by automatically recognizing naturally occurring microscopic features found in a mold. Interesting and convenient, this solution allows brand owners and experts in the field to identify genuine from counterfeit products using an iPhone at any given time, without modifying anything in the production process. To proceed with the authentication, the item requires a matte finish, typically obtained by EDM or sandblasting. The AlpVision team was recently able to characterize this finish and show that a range of 21 to 48 on the Charmilles scale of roughness is appropriate for Fingerprint (or an Ra of 1.1 to 18.0 um). This marker is useful, as it will help suppliers effortlessly deploy AlpVision Fingerprint.

iPod Authentication? Yes, it Works!

Just a few months after the release of the first iPhone, Apple launched the iPod touch. Essentially, an iPod touch is an iPhone without phone capabilities that targets the gaming and music user segments. As AlpVision’s Cryptoglyph and Fingerprint technologies are compatible with iPhones 3 and up, we are frequently asked if we also support iPods. The short answer is “yes, it works”, starting with the 3rd generation of the iPod touch. As the iPod requires neither SIM card nor mobile subscription, it is a perfect solution for customers who wish to use the mobile device as a portable authentication tool. It should be noted that functionalities such as reporting and data mining are still possible via the wireless interface of the iPod touch. The fact that iPods are significantly less expensive than iPhones makes this solution even more attractive.

AlpVision Deploys its Mobile Authentication Solution on US Pharmaceutical Products

AlpVision has just successfully completed implementing its Cryptoglyph authentication solution for a large US based pharmaceutical company. Printing the Cryptoglyph did not alter in any way the printing process, which was printed in classic flexography using standard overprint varnish. The durability of the Cryptoglyph marking was successfully tested under several adverse conditions. Authentication can be performed instantly using a customized iPhone 4 or 5 application. The application was released on the company’s internal app store. AlpVision is the only company in the world that currently provides an invisible marking that has no impact on production, but can still be automatically authenticated with a smartphone.

AlpVision's Mobile Authentication Application Now Authenticates Footwear

According to the National Chamber Foundation, the estimated annual industry loss due to footwear counterfeiting in the U.S. is $12 billion. To combat counterfeit shoes, AlpVision offers the footwear industry its patented Fingerprint technology, a breakthrough covert anti-counterfeit solution that tracks and authenticates mass produced objects manufactured by molding. The solution applies to a wide variety of footwear items, including shoes, boots and sandals that have a rubber or plastic sole. The process simply requires capturing a digital image of the matte-finished sole during or post-production. The image is then used as a reference to perform product authentication. A regular iPhone equipped with AlpVision's product authentication application can be used to verify the authenticity of the shoe.

The WCO announces that AlpVision is now IPM Connected

The World Customs Organization (WCO) was host to the 7th Global Congress on Combating Counterfeiting and Piracy, held in Istanbul, Turkey, from April 24-26. On this occasion, the WCO introduced the new mobile version of the Interface Public-Members (IPM), its online tool serving as an interface between frontline Customs officers and the private sector. One of the first authentication solutions company to join IPM Connected is AlpVision. Rights holders who use IPM will, if they wish, provide Customs officers with AlpVision's instant authentication application available on standard smartphones. Until now, AlpVision's iPhone authentication application detected varnish Cryptoglyph, a pseudo-random pattern of invisible micro-holes (40-80 microns) embedded in the standard varnish layer of folding carton, blister packs and labels. AlpVision has given its iPhone authentication app a welcomed update, namely better detection of labels for curved surfaces. As opposed to flat surfaces, round labels have different depths of field and focus, and generate geometrical distortions. By enhancing the algorithms used to detect AlpVision Cryptoglyph® on flat surfaces, the updated app can now recognize a Cryptoglyph laid out over a curved surface, while counteracting the label distortions. New! AlpVision's Authentication App Now Available on iPhone 5

A year ago, AlpVision released an iPhone 4/4S application capable of authenticating AlpVision's digital invisible anti-counterfeit technologies. AlpVision's mobile authentication solution applies to a wide range of items, including packaging, labeling and plastic molded parts. Today, AlpVision has successfully ported the application to the iPhone 5 platform and delivered it to a customer. The iPhone 5 increases the detection speed by a factor of two (approximately 20 authentications per second), and its 4-inch display, coupled with its light weight, further improves the user's experience. Regardless of the iOS version, AlpVision's authentication application is entirely backward compatible. AlpVision Granted U.S. Patent for "Means for Using Microstructure of Materials Surface as a Unique Identifier."

The United States Patent and Trademark Office granted U.S. Patent No. 8,180,174, covering AlpVision's Fingerprint technology or the use of material or document microstructures for tracking, tampering and anti-counterfeiting purposes.

The patent distinguishes AlpVision Fingerprint from other anti-counterfeiting technologies because it requires no marking (uses the object "as is"), is detectable using standard imaging devices (e.g. scanner), and supports mass production. In particular, the patent describes three types of fingerprints (unique, microscopic and macroscopic Fingerprints), the identification phases (parameter settings, image acquisition and identification), as well as various microstructures (chemical etching, stamped material, brushed material, etc.) and materials (metals, resins, coating, molded materials, etc.).

Established in 1988 by the Global Anti-Counterfeiting Group (GACG), World Anti-Counterfeiting Day is an opportunity to raise awareness of the international costs of counterfeiting and piracy.

AlpVision and Nolato Medical Announce Joint Collaboration to Protect Primary Plastic Packaging for the Pharmaceutical Industry.

"Embedded QA": a new Quality Assessment device for Cryptoglyph® printers.

This new device developed by AlpVision will provide packaging printers and converters with a portable Quality Control device with the goal of verifying the presence of the Cryptoglyph® invisible marking. The (rechargeable) battery powered system enables testing of offset plates before printing and performance of sample testing of printed matter on the printing line. AlpVision contributed to Chapter 21 of the newly edited (May 16, 2011) Handbook of nutraceuticals Volume II

Edited by Yashwant Pathak Ph.D., Chair and Professor at Sullivan University College of Pharmacy, at the CRC Press, ISBN 9781439823682, this handbook describes various processes used in nutraceutical manufacturing. As for pharmaceutical products, branded nutraceuticals which are becoming more and more popular, are also targets for counterfeiters.

AlpVision is very proud to have been selected as a contributor to this handbook in describing (pp. 541 - 546) why anti-counterfeiting and traceability are different problems, requiring different solutions. On the one hand, traceability needs standardization and interoperability amongst the various manufacturers and the intervening third parties within the supply chain up to the retail point; on the other hand, anti-counterfeiting features, especially those invisible to the naked eye or covert ones, need secrecy and confidentiality. They should be constantly kept in pace with the technological advances of the counterfeiters.

Big success for AlpVision at Interphex 2011 in New York, March 29-31.

Building on its North American presence through the recent opening of offices in the Willis Tower (formerly Sears Tower) in Chicago, AlpVision presented at Interphex 2011 its full range of digital on-packaging and on-dosage product authentication solutions.

"Black Horn": a new tool for rapid Cryptoglyph verification.

AlpVision has developed a new tool to rapidly verify the presence or the absence of Cryptoglyph invisible marking on packaging. This new system enables instant authentication of a folding box secured with the Cryptoglyph technology at a speed of up to 15 detections per second.

The authentication system includes a standard PC and an imaging device. The device is a simple USB camera which can be bought on the Internet for less than $400, including a black adapter ($20).

The authentication operation itself is intuitive: just pass the "Black Horn" over the box; the software beeps to indicate that authentication occurred.

The speed and ease of this operation is similar to the reading of a barcode with a laser reader. In addition, the system also recovers the printer and batch information hidden in Cryptoglyph.

AlpVision's 2009 fiscal year results.

During its annual shareholders' meeting, AlpVision's president, Dr. Martin Kutter, informed the shareholders that the company had maintained its profitability in 2009 despite the gloomy economy. The perspectives for 2010 are excellent due to a slight shift forward of various projects. The pharmaceutical industry is an important part of the AlpVision customers' portfolio for delivering proven product authentication solutions.

New regulations are under discussion or implementation, which are related to traceability of medicine doses. Now a more and more clear differentiation between serialization of production items and authentication processes has been finally identified by the various pharma intervening parties.

Serialization should provide traceability in case of product withdrawal or market diversion for example while authentication should enable identifying genuine medicine from fake ones, even correctly serialized. AlpVision will delegate a representative to contribute to workshops where these questions will be debated.

Another important US patent granted to AlpVision.

Another important patent, part of AlpVision's portfolio of 35 patents has been granted in the USA, March 23, 2010.

The patent (No. 7,684,088) describes a process to prevent counterfeiting or alteration of a printed or engraved surface, characterized by the incorporation of a signature of the form of a digital mark into parts or the entire document, and in particular a digital mark technology to hide information in an invisible way through over-printing by using a method called asymmetric amplitude modulation.

This method can be applied to any type of printed material such as paper, packaging, or any other surface. Visible information can also be printed over the digital mark. It applies to packaging, labeling, carton and aluminum foils as well as value documents.

New AlpVision's Fingerprint application enables detection of counterfeiting and remarking of Integrated Circuits (ICs).

Using a simple off-the-shelf flatbed scanner, instant verification is performed online, anywhere, anytime. An image of the upper surface of the case is sent to a KrypsosT secured server, where it is automatically compared with reference images stored in a database, allowing identification of the ICs of the original manufacturer. AlpVision's 2008 fiscal year results.

During its annual shareholders meeting, President, Dr. Martin Kutter, has informed the AlpVision's shareholders of the 36% turnover increase compared to 2007 and the 35.6% increase of the resulting operating profit (EBIT) showed over 2007, despite a significant increase of the payroll to support the growth.

Dr. Kutter also mentioned the further deployment of the AlpVision's brand protection solutions to cover more products in more geographical locations, with for the first time a significant contribution resulting from the new patented Fingerprint technology.

This solution has an enormous potential for identifying counterfeits of molded and stamped parts without additional marking; based on imaging references captured at the manufacturing and stored in a secured server, Fingerprint uses a simple office scanner or a mobile phone camera to identify counterfeits in the field worldwide. This solution also applies for medicinal tablets.

AlpVision has developed a simple and easy to use Cryptoglyph Quality Control system for packaging printers.

The number of printers producing packaging protected by Cryptoglyph, the AlpVision machine readable covert security features for manufacturers of branded products, is increasing considerably. In response to the demand, AlpVision has developed a new stand-alone Cryptoglyph quality control system that printers can use during production runs.     AlpVision presented its turnkey security and brand protection solutions which are based on digital analysis of images and the detection of signals that have a very low signal to noise ratio. For durable goods, such as watches, jewerly, mechanical parts or electromechanical components, AlpVision presented read-only solutions which cannot be falsified.     The turnover increased 42% compared to 2006 and the resulting operating profit (EBIT) amounted 2.3 million Swiss francs (2.2 million US dollars), a 83% increase over 2006, thus assuring the means to internally finance the further development of the company.

    AlpVision received a commendation at the PISEC 07 trade show in London for its development of authenticity products, a category of the PISEC Awards contest.

    Amongst the 25 companies entering the contest, AlpVision received the commendation for its major contribution in developing covert security with standard printing processes and normal ink.

    The Jury highlighted that AlpVision solutions were now open to end consumers using standard home PC equipment and basic image capture devices such as flatbed scanners, PDA phones or webcams.     AlpVision announces the FDA 21 CFR Part 11 compliance for its KrypsosT open platform to combat counterfeits.

    For major deployments, which will bring covert protection to over a billion products worldwide by first quarter 2008, AlpVision Krypsos successfully achieved compliance with the FDA 21 CFR Part 11 requirements for Electronic Records and Electronic Signatures (ERES) issued by the Department of Health and Human Services of the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

    The Krypsos online authentication solution enables branded product manufacturers to provide their supply chain with a single point of contact for both fraud detection and genuine product authentication.     AlpVision exhibited at Intergraf 2007, 11th Security Suppliers' Exhibition in Nice (France).

    Since 1991 an exhibition has been organized alongside the Security Printers' Conference. It offers printers and suppliers the opportunities to present their technology and know-how. 70 companies were advertising their newest products at Nice.

    On its booth No 44, AlpVision demonstrated its full range of covert document and brand protection solutions using standard ink and standard printing equipment. The very selected visitors were amongst government printers, security printers and system integrators coming from all over the world to gather in a high professional environment. A series of more relax events favoring exchange of views and first class networking held also at Nice.     AlpVision exhibited at FachPack / PrintPack 2007 in Nuremberg (Germany) at Anti-Counterfeiting Packaging Special Show.

    FachPack / Printpack is one of the most important packaging exhibition in Central Europe. This year it attracted 1,326 exhibitors on 48,600 m2 from Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Italy, Austria, France, Belgium and other European countries.

    For the first time a special show dedicated to Anti-Counterfeiting Packaging Solutions was organized in hall 7, where visitors could compare various covert and overt solutions from leading brand protection firms.     AlpVision attended the Autopromotec fair in Bologna (Italy)

    Autopromotec is an international event gathering automobile spare parts manufacturers every other year. This show allowed AlpVision to deepen discussions with major players on anti-counterfeiting measures being taken to protect both consumers and companies against this plague.

    "In contrast to previous years, there is an obvious recognition by the largest manufacturers that counterfeiting requires an appropriate answer. The use of new technologies are being disclosed for the first time.     Putting an end to drug counterfeiting

    First Parliamentary European Symposium on Pharmaceuticals was held in Brussels on Monday, 14 May attracting over 300 attendees. Among them were MEPs (Members of the European Parliament) as well as representatives from the largest pharmaceutical companies. The chairman of Sanofi-Aventis, Jean-Francois Dehecq, reminded the audience how dramatic and serious the drug counterfeiting is, and how poorly prepared many European countries are to effectively fight it. MEP and Member of the Committee on Environment, Public Health and Food Safety Ms. Françoise Grossette suggested that this problem should be dealt with at a European level, and that an increasing effort should be made to support the battle.

    AlpVision Vice President, Philippe Jordan, reported that this first official meeting shows both the new awareness as well as the willingness of EU officials to support anti-counterfeiting cooperation and measures in Europe. The large presence of European media aimed at covering the event also demonstrates that the general public is concerned about drug counterfeiting, and it expects to be better informed about issues and solutions in the future.

    AlpVision appears on France 3 Television

    In its Sunday May 13 Soir 3 Week-End edition the "Carnet d'Europe" concentrated on the very hot topic of the proliferation of fake medicine, especially on the Internet.
    Christophe Zimmermann, head of the Fight against Counterfeiting and Piracy section of the World Customs Organisation, showed various fake products seized during customs inspections and mentioned that half the medicine purchased via Internet is fake. Thierry Cornillet, a European deputy, explained that producing fake medicine is more profitable and less dangerous compared to the heroin traffic. Cornillet suggested that new, more punitive legislation is necessary to inhibit medicine counterfeiting. Penalties should be more severe.

    This will be discussed during the next G8 summit in Heiligendamm, Germany to be held June 7-8. Soir 3 also visited a laboratory in Eschborn, Germany which highlighted the difficulties in differentiating authorized Internet dealers from fraudulent ones and the need to track and trace genuine medicine.

    Following through with their research on this important issue, Soir 3 visited AlpVision in Vevey, Switzerland, developer of the Cryptoglyph, an invisible marking of primary and secondary packaging. AlpVision demonstrated that anyone could perform such a genuine or fake identification using a simple office scanner or a camera phone and the AlpVision software running on a basic PC. Such a solution even provides "genuine" or "fake" identification for medicine bought through Internet shops, which is a convenient way for consumers to be able to verify the authenticity of their purchase.     AlpVision at TechnoPharm 2007

    Over 15,000 visitors came to Nuremberg (Germany) to visit TechnoPharm, held from 27th to 29th March 2007. It is one of the most important trade shows in the pharmaceutical industry. This year, TechnoPharm had a special packaging pavilion, putting a special focus on drug counterfeiting. AlpVision was the only anti-counterfeiting supplier to show its solutions.

    AlpVision has been invited to present its pharmaceutical product security solutions at IMPACT First Anti-Counterfeiting Technologies Meeting in Prague

    As one of the few very select companies, AlpVision was invited by the World Health Organization International Medical Products Anti-Counterfeiting Taskforce (WHO - IMPACT) on 13th March 2007 in Prague to present its security solutions for fighting drug counterfeiting. More than 80 attendees from all over the world, including government representatives from the EU and Asia, as well as pharmaceutical security officers, heard the presentation by AlpVision Vice President Philippe Jordan.

    He reported that "The World Health Organisation showed a strong interest in a neutral solution capable of successfully integrating several kinds of security features.

    The 7th Security Printing & Alternative Solutions in Central/Eastern Europe & Russia/CIS Conference

    Pyrabelisk organized its yearly event about security printing and alternative solutions. This event is one of the select few recognized forums where decision makers in the printing security business meet together in order to share their experience as well as to examine new, innovative solutions that will become the standards of tomorrow. AlpVision's VP Sales and Business Development, Philippe Jordan, was a guest speaker at the conference. Jordan discussed relevant business cases where AlpVision security solutions could be appropriately used in securing valuable documents.     AlpVision is protecting lotteries.

    AlpVision was guest speaker at the Security and Risk Management Workshop organized by the World Lottery Association, Bintan (Indonesia) Nov. 17-20, 2006.
    Lottery operators must mitigate their risks in order to ensure proper protection of their lottery tickets. Basically, fake lottery tickets could drive a lottery operator into bankruptcy within a very short period of time, as retailers must immediately pay the prizes won right at the claims desks.

    AlpVision Vice-President Philippe Jordan was invited to share his thoughts with 50 security representatives from lottery associations and lottery operators from all over the world last November in Indonesia. "Within those companies there is a shared concern about the discovery of a very well counterfeited lottery ticket, similar to a "super note" feared in the fiduciary sector. We see that lottery operators intend to benchmark and implement a fiduciary type of security strategy by adding multiple layers of security features where each one meets particular security objectives".     AlpVision increases its presence in the US.

    AlpVision participated in Banknote 2006 in Washington DC, Nov. 5-8. Philippe Jordan, Vice President for Sales and Business Development pointed out that "one out of every 12,000 US dollar banknotes is counterfeit; central banks are forced to stay ahead of counterfeiters, and they will invest immense resources in order to successfully secure their valuable documents".

    Over 400 worldwide delegates from all over the world met for 4 days to examine and review ongoing trends in banknote protection, design, production, issue and use.

    AlpVision exhibited its Cryptoglyph invisible marking solution at the RFID Healthcare Industry Adoption Summit - Washington DC, Nov. 12-15. Recent pedigree adoption in the US is putting even more pressure on pharmaceutical companies to find an affordable way to secure drugs against counterfeiting.     Document Leaks - Tracking the Source

    Governments, courts, companies and institutions, all have the problem of document leaks. With AlpVision's new solution it is now possible to track the source of the document leak without any human intervention.

    Whenever someone prints a document, a trace will be added to the document clearly identifying when, where, and by whom the document was printed. Identifying a suspect document requires only a standard scanner and AlpVision's leak detection software.

    Protection of Glass Through Invisible Engraving

    A breakthrough in making products. For the first time it is now possible to apply an invisible Cryptoglyph onto glass based products. Marking glass usually performed in such as way that then engraving process, for example with a laser, is visible to the human eye. However, in collaboration with the Swiss based company Frewitt it is now possible to apply invisible laser engraving onto glass based products.     AlpVision Signs Exclusive Patent License Agreement with EPFL

    In our continuing effort to strengthen AlpVision's patent portfolio and expand into new markets, AlpVision has signed two exclusive patent license agreements with the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, Switzerland. The patents were initially filed by the Signal Processing Institute, headed by Prof. Kunt. The first patent plays a key role in video watermarking and describes methods and technologies to protect video through motion vector modulation. The second patent describes a method to protect documents against copying.     AlpVision is pleased to announce that Dr. Martin Kutter, co-founder and CTO of AlpVision, has received the award for the best PhD thesis of the year 1999 for his work entitled "Digital Watermarking: hiding information in images". The Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland, issues this award once a year to people who have performed outstanding research in science and engineering. Members of Dr. Kutter's jury were Prof. Murat Kunt, Prof. Touradj Ebrahimi (both from EPFL), Prof. Thierry Pun (CUI, University of Geneva, Switzerland), Prof. Benoit Macq (UCL, Belgium), and Dr. Alexander Herrigel (Digital Copyright Technologies, Switzerland).

With the help of this new and innovative product people can protect their documents, such as letterheads, and verify at any time if the document is original. If a document has been copied the SafePaper detection software allows easy identification of the copy.
