What it is?
All boxes or labels undergo a die-cut operation, where the material is cut to produce the final folding box. An anti-counterfeit solution consists of slightly altering this shape, which is often overlooked by counterfeiters.
How do you detect it?
The detection is usually manual by visual comparison with the technical specifications of the die cut.
What do we think about this technology?
This technology is interesting in the sense that it adds absolutely no manufacturing cost and does not require any specific detection tool. However, it has some weaknesses. Indeed, its security relies entirely on the hope that counterfeiter will not notice it. Moreover, all die-cut modification details must be shared with the person performing the authentication.
For folding boxes, a more secure approach consists of printing a Cryptoglyph®. It is also easier for the operator to perform authentication, since the detection is automatically performed by a smartphone app.
