How does it work?
AlpVision Fingerprint® technology leverages the intrinsic microscopic surface irregularities found on products and uses these unique characteristics as the means of authentication. Depending on the manufacturing process, these irregularities will be repeated between different products (for instance, on molded products).
What do we think about this technology?
This technology is ideal in every way for products which are either molded or stamped. Indeed, it combines the two critical aspects of a good security feature: hard to counterfeit and easy to detect. At the same time, no modification is needed to the product, so it is totally invisible. Furthermore, it is deceptively simple to deploy, since it only requires the capture of a few reference images to authenticate millions of products. In addition to its deployment simplicity, detection is easy with any smartphone. Finally, this is one of the exceedingly rare approaches which can be put in place retroactively, even after products are already on the market. Its main limitation is that it requires an initial qualification test, since some products do not have sufficient micro-defects.
